Creepy Food for Grandchildren

I am not a spectacular cook. (Spook-tacular, yes indeedy!) I’m not a mediocre cook. I am not a passable cook. I merely attempt to cook. That being said, almost any food that I fix for my grandchildren could be labeled as creepy.

That being said, I have a question for you.

Q: When is a Hostess Ding Dong not a Hostess Ding Dong?
A: When it is ‘dressed-up’ to look like a spider. Eeeek!

These spiders are easy to make. Get a Ding Dong. Get some pretzel sticks and dip them in melted chocolate (or Pocky Sticks which are a biscuit dessert from Japan that you can find at Oriental market stores or here). “Glue” pretzel sticks together with more melted chocolate to form the spider legs. Poke the legs into the Ding Dong. Add eyes and voila! You have a creepy spider food that your grandchildren will love to eat.

They would also have a blast making them. If  you make these with your grandchildren, I suggest that you make the legs ahead of time so that they will be all ready when you want to assemble  your spider.

You can go here to get directions on how to make them — and make other spider cakes from Twinkies and Snowballs.

These are way fun Halloween treats!
