Decorating cookies for holidays is a great activity to do with your grandchildren. (If you need a good recipe for a soft sugar cookies, you can see my recipe.
But here’s a little twist to the idea. Instead of using cookie cutters to cut out different shapes that are smallish in size, make a humongous cookie. Press some cookie dough into a disposable aluminum pie pan and bake it! You’ll get a giant-size cookie! A size that will give your grandchildren more ‘room’ to decorate (and more sugar to their systems!).
You could bake jumbo cookies any time of the year — not just at Halloween when grandchildren already have lots of sugar coursing through their bodies. Do it on New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Ground Hog Day, First Day of Summer — ANY day making and decorating huge cookies with grandchildren will be a hoot!
Do you have a good cookie recipe that you make with (or for) your grandchildren?

Pamela, cookies on pizza pans!! That’s even better than making them in a pie pan! Wonderful idea.
Susan, I checked out your cookies and there were only 2 recipes that I have not eaten/made from your list! It’s amazing how universal some of our cookie favorites are!
It’s also fun to roll the cookie dough out on a pizza pan and make a gigantic cookie. I don’t care much for cake and would take this over cake any day.
What a fabulous idea! Thinking outside the box is what grandmothers are all about!
I have links to some of my favorite cookie recipes over on my website. I chose these because they are either cookies that I grew up with or cookies that I used to make for my children. I bet some of them are your favorites, too. Go to http://grandparents.about.com/od/cookingwithgrandkids/tp/CookieFavorites.htm.
