Glow Jars

Make glow in the dark jars with kids.

Saturday, we had a family Christmas party.

We made glow jars and I thought that I would share this idea with you.

It’s not really Christmas-y. But it is a fun activity to do with family!

I got some empty baby food jars. I got glow sticks from the dollar store. I cut off both ends of the glow stick and dumped the gel inside the jar.

Because it was thick, it didn’t come out very well. So, I tried blowing it out. Warning! Glow-in-the-dark-gel tastes pukey.

Cut off the ends of a glow stick and blow contents into a jar.

There wasn’t much gel so I smeared it round the inside of the jar so there wasn’t just a small glob in the bottom of the jar. (Next time I might put in 2 glow sticks. Or maybe not get them from the dollar store — to see if another kind would have more gel.)

Then, we hot glued the lid on.

And let the kids play. (They also played with the extra glow sticks.)

Make glow in the dark jars with kids.
Waving glow sticks.
Waving glow sticks.
Waving glow sticks.

This was an easy activity to prepare for and an easy activity to do. And, one that the grandchildren enjoyed playing with. Try it with YOUR grandkids. I bet they’ll love it.
