Halloween Ideas to do with Your Grandchildren

Have you heard about the Grand Magazine?  If not, you’re missing out on a treat. Take a moment to register (it’s free) to receive their magazine in your e-mail.  (The article The Night I Bombed by Kathryn Weiss in the October 2009 issue was brilliantly hilarious!)There is also a great article of Halloween activities that you can do with your grandchildren: Halloween hedgehogs (our son who is enamored with hedgehogs would LOVE this activity!), splat monsters, and screamer streamers.Clever, clever, clever.
Do you hate cleaning out the guts of the pumpkin before you carve it?  Then maybe stenciled pumpkins from Better Homes and Garden is the answer for you.All you need are some doilies, black paint, a brush, and some repositionable adhesive (like Krylon® 7020 Easy-Tack™ Adhesive).

This activity would probably work best with a little bit older grandchild, say someone over eight-years old.

There are also ideas for making  junk-o-lanterns, a web laden pumpkin, or a leaf pumpkin candle holder. Here’s the complete list of Halloween ideas from Better Homes and Garden.

Don’t these cookies look realistic??  These witches fingers cookie are fairly easy to make.  Almonds form the fingernail and red decorating gel is the red ooze around the nail. You can serve Brew Ha-Ha Punch with some spooky fog swirling around the drink to go along with these cookies
This site has some great patterns to use for carving pumpkins if you can’t come up with your own ideas.
These spider web cupcakes are fun to make with grandchildren.
And these Pumpkin Pie Bites. Take some time to bake them with your grand ghosts and ghouls.

If your grandchildren live far away, make and send them a Halloween countdown calendars.

And, last but not least, here are some Halloween printables to print up and make and some Halloween crafts.

I hope you can find some activities here that you can do with your grandchildren in celebrating the fun side of Halloween!

Grandma Lizzie, Thanks for your kind words! You’ll have to let me know how your cupcakes turn out.

Julianne, what deadbeats your book club members are! I would have totally eaten a dozen or so had I been there!

I totally made the finger cookies for my bookclub as treats for the evening we discussed “Stiff” (a wonderful book, by the way). It didn’t go so well. One friend ate one. That’s it. Kids are so much more fun than adults sometimes.

    Nina –

Carving pumpkins leaves hives up and down my arms so Kevin’s been the one gutting my pumpkin for the last several years. I told him this year I plan on painting my pumpkin. The doilies are a fun idea!

As always, excellent ideas. I’m so glad you’ve trolled the magazines and more for us — now if only my little Bubby didn’t live 819 miles away! But I’ll be trying a few of these just for myself and my hubby, I think. Thank you for sharing!
