Make a Gratitude Book with Your Grandchildren
Before I write about anything else, I have just GOT to tell you our exciting news. Our oldest son and his wife are expecting their second baby!!! We are so excited for them. She had some rough times (e.g. being life flighted to the hospital for an emergency C-section . . .) so we hope everything will go better during this pregnancy and delivery.
The other day I discovered a delightful site: Little Birdie Secrets. Jessica, Mandy, and Stacy are super uber (with a capitol ‘s’ and capital ‘u’) creative young women. Creativity oozes from their brains, out their fingers, in to their projects, and onto their web site! (You need to check out their fun outlet cover idea. Grandmas could really use this idea to keep grand chickabiddies safe.)
Crafting is not a word that I use in the same sentence with my name. Crafts and I go together like oil and water. Wait, not that nicely. My husband says that I am shifty — not crafty. (You can read about a recent experience I had at a craft store on my personal blog.)
However, when I saw this Japanese book on the Little Birdie Secrets’ site, I decided to buck up and give this a try. Maybe it was because the book cover is orange and I love that color. But if I’m really honest, it is because they have fabulous directions with pictures galore. Their step-by-step directions are very well written and easy to follow. Made me think even someone as lowly as I could make a book . . .
One of the little birdies explained how her mother has a ‘grateful book’ set out during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Family and friends are encouraged to write in the book about something for which they are grateful. I really like that idea and that is what I will do with my Japanese-styled book.
So, sucker that I am for making big messes and trying wild and dangerous things, I am going to make one of these books. I want to have a book that our family can look at over the years to see all of the blessings that we have enjoyed.
This would be a wonderful project to do with a granddaughter. If she didn’t want to use it as a gratitude book, she could use it as a blank journal, as a photo album, as a place to write poetry, or give away as a Christmas present. Spending time making this project will create lasting memories for you and your granddaughter and give you both warm fuzzies for years to come. Aw shucks . . .
Thank you Little Birdies for sharing this idea on your site! Modge Podge, here I come!
