I almost get a sugar high just thinking about all of those things!
So I thought I’d share something that is healthy, super quick, and super easy. Hummus! But first, I have to share a joke with you.
Sometimes our children might think that grandma gives the grandkids too many sweets. Doesn’t this joke just tickle your funny bone? My friend shared it with me. (I’m not sure where she got it so I can’t give proper credit. Rats!)
So, to help counter all of the sweet recipes I’ve shared here, I’m sharing a recipe for hummus.
I love hummus! However, I feel that it’s rather pricey. Five dollars for about 8 ounces is too much for me to pay.
So, I decided to make my own. It is super cheap! Basically, it’s just the cost of a can of garbanzo beans which was 75 cents for me. That’s a huge savings from $5!
And, I love it because it’s fresh! And because it’s a great source of protein.
Here’s the recipe.
- 1 15 ounce can of garbanzo beans
- 4 teaspoons olive oil
- 4 teaspoons lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- Put in a blender and blend until all of the beans are pureed.
- Eat immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge.
I’ve made this several times. I think next time, I’m going to add a smidgen more cumin. I love cumin!!
Your grandkids will enjoy how easy this is to make. In a matter of minutes, you have a spread that you can use with raw vegetables, chips, crackers, on a sandwiches, or with cut-up pita bread.
Have you made hummus before? What other ingredients do you like to put in it? Feel free to share your ideas so that other grandmas can make this healthy recipe for their grandkids.
