Sometimes, an ABC book for kids can be boring.
A is for apple, B is for Ball, C is for cat . . . . blah, upon boringly blah, blah, blah.
Imagine my delight when I found one that is unique. That has some pizazz and fun. And is so subtle that your grandkids probably won’t realize that it’s an ABC book unless you point it out.
The other night, my husband and I were babysitting our niece’s kids. (They are SO cute and fun! And, I love how they call me Aunt Nina. How sweet!)
I took several books with me to read them bedtime stories. And they totally enjoyed We’re All in the Same Boat. Their eight-year-old son listened raptly even though it was a picture book. (That’s how fun this book is.)
In fact, they wanted me to read it to them a second time. So, I obliged.
We were almost through when he exclaimed, “This is an ABC book!” (Smart kid, eh?”)
You probably know the story of Noah building an ark. That’s the premise.
He builds the ark and gathers the animals. The animals were excited to be on the boat. They were ready for a grand adventure.
Then it started raining. It rained and rained and rained.
And the animals got cranky.
Don’t you just love the look on the camels’ faces? And the picture of poor Noah?
When Noah couldn’t take all of the bickering, he yelled, “We’re all on the same boat!”
Boy howdy! That stopped the animals right in their tippy toe tracks.
And then, the animals changed their behavior. (Don’t you wish it would be that easy with kiddos??)
Here’s Noah checking on Zebras who were getting some Zzzzzzzzzs. I love the look on his face and love that he has a flashlight. How fun.
This is a great picture book to read to toddlers. It’s a great book for readers ages 6-8. They’ll have fun reading the book — and increasing their vocabulary. It’s a sneaky way to get them to learn new words.
We’re all in the same boat — grandmas snuggling and reading great picture books to precious grandkids!
