Kids love water.
And on hot days, running through the sprinklers is a great way for grandchildren to cool off.
(On hot days even I feel like running through the sprinklers!)
Instead of using the regular boring metal sprinklers that you might have to water your lawn, why not add some pizzazz to the activity?
(kids always like pizzazz!)
Make your sprinkler out of a pop bottle.
Step 1. Buy a two litter bottle of pop. Guzzle its contents.
Step 2. Remove label.
Step. 3. Poke holes in one side of the bottle. I did a row of five holes about an inch apart. Then, I did another row of 5 holes about an inch to the left side of the original holes. Then, I did another row of 5 holes to the right of the original holes making a total of 15 holes. I used a push pin to initially start the hole. Then, I took a really small screw driver and poked it through the holes making them bigger.
Step 4. I used a coupler that we had on hand for our yard sprinkler system. It was a 3/4-female coupler on both ends. You can find those in a store that sells supplies for yard sprinkling systems. Or, you can go to your local hardware store that has a plumbing section and pick up a 3/4-inch female by 3/4-inch female swivel hose adapter. You will also need a rubber hose washer.
If you buy the pieces yourself (instead of getting one from a landscaping sprinkler supply store that is all put together for you), put the rubber hose washer on the mouth of the bottle. Screw the two adapters together. Carefully screw the adapter to the bottle and tighten. The threads may not match perfectly but that’s okay. It will still work just fine. Attach the hose to the other end of the adapter.
If you have one that comes as one piece, simply screw that to the pop bottle and then screw the hose into the adapter.
Step 5. Carefully turn on the water. When the pop bottle fills up with water. the pressure will force the water out of the holes creating your own “spray” sprinkler. (This is a picture of it leaning on its side so you can see how it works — and so I wouldn’t get soaking wet when taking this picture!)
Then. have your grandchildren play in the sprinkler.
This is way easy to make and provides lots of fun, cool play for the grandkids!

What a fun hot weather day activity! Love how you have repurposed the used pop bottle! Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Hearth and Soul hop.
Hi Nina,
I forgot about this fun water idea, I need to get a pop bottle. This is such a fun way to stay cool! Thanks for sharing and linking up at the TALENTED TUESDAY link party!
Cheers!

My granddaughter pulled it out again today and used it. She forgot to bring her swimsuit but her mom let her run through that pop bottle sprinkler in her clothes! Of course her little sister did, too. Then, they had a water fest. It felt good on such a hot day. Thanks for dropping by and thanks for your comments.

What a fun idea! Who knew that a soda bottle could be attached so easily to a hose?!
Thanks for sharing with us at the #HomeMattersParty
I wish I knew about this when the kids were younger. I’m sure they would’ve loved this.
What a great idea…I would never have known this worked! Thanks for sharing with the Thursday Blog Hop!
I love this! I imagine kids love it for sure. Thanks for linking with me, I’m going to pin this 🙂
What a wonderful idea! And probably works lots better than most metal sprinklers! Going to try this one out soon! Thanks!
