(NOTE: I did not receive any remuneration for writing about this book. Nor did I receive a free review copy.)
A while back, my youngest son and his wife gave me a book.
I LOVE books.
But this book wasn’t for me. Sort of.
It was one that I could read to my grandchildren.
Wahoo! I always love a good book to read to the kiddos.
The humor in it is so delightful that I felt that I just HAD to share it with you.
Warning! Warning! Spoiler alert!
I’m tellin’ you right up front that if you look at the following pictures, the cute ending will be revealed. And I think that is perfectly fine because knowing the delightful ending will be great motivation to get a copy.
I’m talking about The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers. It is one of the most delightful children’s book that I’ve come across! (Am I using the word delightful too much? I hope you don’t think so because that is the perfect word for this book. It’s a book that totally delights!)
I love the plot. I love the pictures. I especially love the ending.
This is a story about Henry who loved books. But not the same way that you and I do. Oh no. He loves to EAT them. (He loves to eat red ones the most. That ticked my bone.)
But, eating so many books made poor Henry sick.
Finally, Henry learned to just READ the books.
(Phew! I knew that you were very worried about his health.)
But then, every now and then — he still takes a chomp out of a book. (Can you see the bite that he took out of this book in the bottom right-hand corner?)
Isn’t that the most clever (and delightful) way to end the story? I’m amazed at the creativity of the author to come up with such a wonderful idea for a children’s picture book!
So what are you waiting for?
Scurry to the library and get a copy so you can share it with your grandchildren.
Better yet, buy a copy for your personal library so that you can read it to your grandkids when they come for a visit!
You might even want to consider giving it to a grandchild for her birthday or for Christmas. They would absolutely love it. I know because my grandkids do!
