(NOTE: I was given a copy or this book but all opinions are my own.)
Dad always checks on Bunny right before Bunny goes to sleep. But tonight . . .
Bunny waited for Dad to come. He waited and waited and waited.
Come on, Dad! Check on me, check on me, check on me! (Can you hear Bunny’s impatience?)
But Dad doesn’t come.
Bunny couldn’t wait any longer so he climbed out of bed.
He packed his wagon with everything he knew Dad would need on this cold winter night — water, a cookie, a blanket, their favorite book — and headed to Dad’s room.
Dad was fast asleep.
Bunny offered Dad a sip of water, the soft warm blanket . . .
. . . and a cookie.
Dad slept on.
Then Bunny reached really high and tapped Dad on the nose. Dad woke up. Huzzah!
Bunny told Dad he forgot to check on Bunny!
Dad scooped Bunny into his arms, read their favorite book, and they both gently drifted off to sleep.
When I finished reading this book, I felt like someone had wrapped me up in a minky blanket warm from the dryer. Soft. Cuddly. Peaceful. Content. I felt like I could go to sleep right then and there. Same thing after reading it several other times.
Sometimes, kids’ bedtime is not peaceful. They need a drink of water. They forgot to get their favorite stuffed animal to take to bed with them and they need to get it. What was that sound? They need to go to the bathroom. They want another drink of water. And, I think there is a boogeyman under my bed.
Sometimes parents get frazzled by all of that delay until it’s get-back-into-bed-and-don’t-get-out-again-and-I-don’t-want-to-hear-another-peep-out-of-you-GO-TO-SLEEP!
Maybe reading this book can soothe the bedtime snarls out (of both child and parent) making everything all right with the world again.
I highly recommend this book and daresay that it will be a bedtime favorite. It’s a great addition to your personal library.
