How are your holiday celebrations going?
If you’re like me, you’re busy, busy, busy.
However, you might still be looking for an activity or craft to do with your grandkids at a family party. Are you?
If so, I’ve got the perfect thing for you — glitter candles!
These candles are outrageously easy — and inexpensive — to make. You can whip them out in minutes. (However the clean-up is a different beast altogether!)
Supplies needed:
- candles
- glitter
- double stick tape
- waxed paper
First determine how long of a piece of tape you need. You can use a tape measure or a piece of string or a ruler. Whichever is handiest and easiest for you.
I put string around the candle and then measured out how long it was on a ruler. Then, I used the ruler to guide how much tape to use.
If you’re real persnickety particular, you can mark on your candle where to place the tape. I just eyeballed it and it worked out okay.
Pull the tape tight as you place it on the candle. That way, you won’t have any gaps at the edges of the tape which would look dumb. Voice. Of. Experience.
Once the tape is in place, sprinkle glitter on the tape. Make sure you have waxed paper under your candle to catch the excess glitter.
Let’s pause here, folks, to talk a little bit about glitter. I had two kinds. Regular and fine. I put fine gold glitter on white candles. I liked it. It looked elegant. But, where was the sparkle?
I had regular silver glitter. It sparkled. Oh, how it sparkled. I loved that.
So, if you want elegance, you might want to use the fine glitter. But if you’re looking for sparkle, go with the regular size.
Now. Back to making the candles.
You’ll notice that some of the glitter will stick to the candle itself where there isn’t any tape. Do not fear! You can brush it off with your hand.
Or, I found that a paintbrush was really quick and effective. I was amazed at how I could brush over the edge of the tape to remove the glitter on the candle while not affecting the glitter on the tape. Cool.
Here are the candles with silver glitter. (I can’t figure out why the glitter looks thin in the picture. It really isn’t!)
And the candles with the gold glitter.
I added some Christmas greenery around them to make a nice little centerpiece for my table.
Don’t the candles look cool all light up at night?
