Do you have old CDs hanging around that you’ve never taken the time to throw away?
Instead of tossing them out, make a fun and inexpensive CD snowman Christmas tree ornament.
These snowmen are super easy to make. The hardest thing (for me) is to have patience for the various coats to dry.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- CD
- white acrylic paint
- sponge paintbrush
- googly eyes
- orange tissue paper
- black construction paper
- Epsom salt
- Mod Podge
- clear acrylic sealer
- curling ribbon
- Scotch tape
First, get a piece of waxed paper or newspaper to cover your work area. (I used waxed paper.) Paint both sides of the CD with the white acrylic paint. Be sure to paint the edge of the CD.
Let it dry completely.
Next, add a very thick coat of Mod Podge. (The more you have the thicker the layer of Epsom salt you can have.)
Sprinkle on TONS of Epsom Salt. Tap the CD on your counter to shake off excess salt.
Let it dry completely. (If you don’t, you could have problems with gluing on the eyes.)
Spray a coat of the clear acrylic sealer. This will keep the salt from falling off.
Glue on the googly eyes.
Cut out 5 small circles for the mouth and glue them on.
Cut an 8 inch square from the tissue paper. (I started out with orange construction paper as you can see in the picture above. But, I didn’t like how it twisted. The construction paper was too stiff. Tissue paper worked much better.)
Twist the tissue paper to make the ‘carrot’ nose. Stuff it through the hole in the center of the CD. Trim some of the excess paper. Then, tape the tissue paper to the back of the CD to hold the nose in place.
The tip of the ‘nose’ wouldn’t stay twisted into a point so I added a little bit of white glue so the nose would be pointy.
Cut a short piece of curling ribbon and tape it on the back. This is the hanger for your ornament.
Ta da! Your CD snowman is finished.
Now, hang it on the Christmas tree.
It looks lovely when the Christmas lights on the tree are turned on.
