My grandchildren LOVE balloons! (What child doesn’t, I ask you?)
Kids can play with a simple balloon for a long time!
They especially like seeing how long they can keep it in the air or how long they can bat it back and forth with someone. (Good gross motor skill practice!)
Because of their love of balloons, I like to figure out fun things to do with balloons. Like make these balloon people.
Since Thanksgiving is just next week (YIKES!), I thought it would be fun to make balloon turkeys with the grandkids.
All you need to make them are some large balloons, my free printable for the turkey eyes and beak, fall-colored cardstock paper, scissors, and glue sticks.
Print up and cut out the turkey’s eyes, beak, and feathers. (Elliott’s cutting skills aren’t very good so I did the cutting for him.)
Once the eyes, beak, and feathers are cut out, simply glue them to the balloon. Make sure your grandkids put lots of glue on them or else they will keep falling off and you’ll have to keep gluing everything back on. (Voice of experience here, folks.)
And your turkeys are done! (Elliot glued his feathers a little low so they don’t show up above the balloon. But, he was proud of his turkey anyway!)
If your grandkids are like my grandsons, they won’t be able to make just one. We ended up making a small flock.
When I made these turkeys with my granddaughters, we used fun scrapbook paper. Please follow my advice and DON’T! Unless you use a really heavy scrapbook paper, the paper is too flimsy to stand up. To avoid any drama or meltdowns, use cardstock paper. Just sayin’ . . .
You might have noticed that my grandkids were in their pajamas. We made these balloon turkeys one evening when I babysat them.
When it was time to go to bed, they created a ‘pen’ to put their turkeys to roost in for the night. It was so funny to see how serious they were while making the pen and putting the turkeys in it!
This would be an easy-to-prepare for activity for Thanksgiving day. And, your grandkids would have a hoot making and playing with these turkeys!

Is there a trick to getting the eyes and breaks to print? The balloon people did, but not the turkey.

I love to see children doing crafts. There is something about their imaginations that never ceases to amaze me. I was decoupaging and painting a bottle and my 4-year old grandson wanted to do something so I gave him paints and blank paper and it was funny that he was trying his best to duplicate on his paper what was on my decoupage napkin. Thank you for sharing your little artists with the Blogging Grandmothers. I hope to see you again next week.
These are so stinking cute! I hope I have balloons so we can make these next week when we are off school.
Thanks for sharing on #FridayFrivolity. We will be partying on Thanksgiving night, I hope you will join us.
So glad you like the turkeys! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. (I probably won’t be to your link party on Thanksgiving night. I’ll have out of town guests for the weekend . . .)
These balloon turkeys are so fun. Love all the different colors and fun way to decorate. Thanks for linking up with Blogging Grandmothers.

We’ve never popped a balloon while making the turkeys or the people! Balloons are surprisingly strong.
