Awesome: adjective meaning extremely impressive. That adjective perfectly describes the pop-up book by Fabulastic Books. Awesome! Totally!
They have created the world’s first personalized pop-up book. You choose either a boy or girl for the main character, pick a hair color and skin tone, add a child’s name, write a short message, and select 1 of 6 languages that the book can be printed in.
The company does its magic and the book is off to its new home.
Here’s the book they created for my grandson, Isaac.

They LOVED seeing the pictures and how they popped out from the book.
The pop-out pictures were absolutely awesome. Wait! I’ve already said that. Let’s try this again.
The pictures were stunning! Breathtaking! Mesmerizing!
So what’s the story’s plot? you ask.
A boy (or girl) makes his way through forests and waterfalls and meets animals who help him find his lost slipper. Along the way, the animals teach values such as generosity, respect for the environment, and teamwork.
Isn’t that wonderful?
The author, Susanna Isern is a child psychologist and has three best-selling children’s books. Esther Gili is the talented illustrator and Yoojin Kim is the super skilled paper engineer! (How she figured out how to make the pictures fold down into the book and then pop up when it’s opened is beyond me!)
Each book is handmade in Spain where the company is based. Their site suggests that shipping could take up to 2 weeks. However! My grandson received his sooner. Which delighted — and surprised — me. Considering how COVID-19 has affected so many things, I thought that the overseas shipping would take a tad longer to get to Utah (in the U.S.). But it didn’t!
Fabulastic Books does more than just create a fabulous pop-up book. They donate some of its profits to Trees of the Future, an organization that plants fast-growing trees, fruit trees, and hardwood trees. They are also working on other projects to reduce our environmental impact.
Huzzah! I’m all for environmental responsibility! (We have planted over 100 trees in our 2-acre yard!)
Let me give you a piece of advice. To make sure the book is enjoyed for years to come, I suggest that older siblings or adults sit with a toddler to look at the book. While the book is sturdy, toddler hands could accidentally rip it. And that would be sad. Sad indeedy!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In my humble opinion, this picture of Isaac says it all!
