Easy.
I like easy.
Easy crafts.
Easy DIY.
Easy recipes.
I especially like easy recipes that pleases everybody. (I don’t ask much now, do I?)
However, it’s hard to please everybody. Sometimes there seems to be a persnickety eater that is always disgruntled. (Boo!)
But, everybody that has tasted my Water Punch recipe loves it. Wahoo!
Are you having a picnic this Memorial Day weekend? If so, this is the perfect drink to serve.
Water Punch
- 5 quarts of water
- 3 cups of sugar
- 1 tablespoon citric acid
- 1 tablespoon lemon extract
Mix all of the ingredients in a large container. Add ice to chill. Serve and enjoy
Now that you have the recipe, lemme tell you a wee bit about it.
I think that 3 cups of sugar makes this punch a tad sweet. So, I recommend that you taste it once you make the recipe. Add more water if you find it too sweet. Or, if it will be a while before you serve the drink, you can add more ice cubes. As they melt, they will dilute the sweetness.
Another thing. Citric acid is the key ingredient here. I get mine at a local pharmacy.
A pharmacy? you ask.
Yes, indeedy. A pharmacy. They keep it behind the counter — with all of the other controlled substances. Odd, I know. Don’t ask me why they keep it there.
Sometimes I get just half-a-cup’s worth. My pharmacy has it in a one-pound container. I got one quite a few years ago for $16. That seems rather pricy to me. (That’s why I usually get only one-half of a cup at a time.)
Also, you can add sliced lemons and limes for a little color. They look especially nice if you serve this drink in a punch bowl.
You can also add one two-liter bottle of Sprite. That adds a little bubbly to the drink.
This is a lovely drink for a picnic or barbecue. Guests are really impressed. At first, they think they are being served water and when they drink it they are surprised — and love the taste.
Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Lovely idea! I used to but citric acid to clean limescale out of my baby’s steam sterilizer! #waitingonwednesday
Lavina,
Citric acid to clean a steamer, huh? Well, I’ve never heard of that! I think I’d rather put it in a drink!
