Finding Granny

Finding Granny by Andrew Abel is a fun picture book of grandchildren on a treasure hunt looking for their grandmother.

(NOTE: I was given a copy of this book but all opinions are my own.)

Before I talk about this children’s picture book, I need to give you a little back story.

Andrew Abel, the author, told me, “My father created treasure hunts for his grandchildren. He drew simple pictures for the clues. That way, his young grandchildren could participate even though they couldn’t read.”

(Smart grandfather.)

Abel’s children loved those treasure hunts. They are now grown with children of their own. And what did they ask THEIR father to do?

Why, carry on the tradition that their grandfather started. Have their father make treasure hunts for HIS grandchildren.

I image that the author was tickled pink to do it! What a great tradition to continue.

And that is what Finding Granny by Andrew Abel is all about — a treasure hunt where the treasure is granny.

In the story, the children search the house for clues — around a plant . . .

Surprise! They find granny in the laundry room!

And she surprises THEM with a big hug!

My five-year-old grandson got a big kick out of this book. He really liked the idea of granny hiding and the grandkids looking for her.

This book is good for grandkids who can’t read and those that can. For early readers, the words are simple and easy. Plus, rhyming words add to the fun.

If it’s hot, hot, hot at your house (like it is at mine), why not find a cool place to read this book to your grandchildren. Then, create a treasure hunt (or two or three) for them — followed by having a tall glass of cold milk and a cookie.
