Grandmothers love to get hugs and kisses from grandkids. They are precious commodities to a grandmother.
And, grandmothers love to give hugs and kisses.
But when grandchildren live far away, grandma’s arms sure get lonely. So what is a grandma to do when she wants to hug grandkids but those grandkids live way beyond Timbuktu?
Send a hug by mail!
“And how do you do that?” you ask.
Well, it’s easier than you think.
All you need is some colored paper (or card stock or construction paper) curling ribbon, a wee bit ‘o glue, and scissors.
Simply trace around your hands.
Cut them out.
Notice how I drew my ring on my finger and drew fingernails and knuckles. I’m not very artistic but I think you get the gist.
Then, cut a piece of curling ribbon and glue one hand on one end and the other hand on the other end. Ta da! You have a set of hands that your grandchild can drape around her neck in a hug.
Now, it’s ready for you to write a letter on the back of the hands and pop in the mail. (If this is the first hug that you send by mail, you might want to explain that it is a virtual “hug” from you since you can’t hug your grandchild in real time at the moment.)
You can get really fancy if you want to. You can glue lace on your hands to make it look like you have lace gloves on. Or, you can glue a fake jewel on for your ring. Or use markers to color your fingernails. Or put stickers or glitter on your fingernails. You, Dear Reader, are so smart that I’m sure you can come up with other clever, clever ways to decorate your hands.
I suggest that you stack several sheets of paper together so that you can cut out several hands at the same time. This will save you time at a later date — you’ll have some hands all ready cut out when you want to send a hug again. (I’m all for efficiency!)
Happy virtual hugging!

This is too cute! And I love the hint about cutting out more than one at a time. Good advice if you have more than one grandchild who may need a hug!
OMG! This is the cutest idea ever! Amara is close by and I still think I need to do this — or get her to do it to send to her pen pals! Or both! Definitely sending this to my sister who is not lucky enough to have her Grands close by — yet!
Oh for sure you need to do this for Amara! She’d absolutely love it.
My Dad is 86, living in Australia & hasn’t been able to see his 96yo sister in the U.K. I’m cutting his hand print out now to send his dearly missed sister one of your special hugs. ThankYou xo
Oh this is the sweetest thing ever! I’m soooooo glad that you’re going to have your father send his sister a hug. This has touched my heart. I wish you, your father, and aunt all the best!
That is so sweet! I think I’d toss in a pair of paws from our dog, Roxie, if I ever needed these – the kids love to hug HER!
Dog paws! What a great idea!! We don’t have dogs so that didn’t even cross my mind. Thanks for sharing that great idea.
