When I played the Shamrock in a Bowl game with the grandkids the other day, we also made shamrock hats.
This is another easy and inexpensive activity that you can do with your grandkids. Woohoo!
Got a paper plate? Crayons? Scissors? Great. You’re in fine shape to make this hat with your grandkids.
The grandkids loved coloring the shamrocks even though they didn’t color them totally.
How do you spell short attention span?
First, get a cheap paper plate and fold it in half.
Next, cut around the inside rim of the plate — where the flat plate part meets the edge with ridges. This will create the brim of the hat.
Don’t cut all the way around. Leave about 1 inch because that will be the shamrock stem. Then cut out the shamrock.
(At the top of the folded edge that is cut away from the plate, cut like you do when you cut out a heart from a folded piece of paper. Then, cut out a heart shape at a 90 degree angle to the heart you just cut out. This will be easier to understand when you see the paper plate when it is unfolded…)
Next, unfold the paper plate. Since I was cutting free-hand, my shamrock petals are not the same size. Next time I do this, I will trace on the folded paper plate where I want to cut. Hopefully, I will be able to draw it so the petals are more the uniform.
Also, I think that the stem is a tad too skinny. I will make it fatter next time we make a shamrock hat! And shorter.
The grandkids colored their shamrock hat…
And here they are wearing their delightful shamrock hat.! (I love his freckles. They are like a dash of cinnamon sprinkled on his nose…)
