When a Dragon Moves In

When a Dragon Moves in is a delightful children's picture book.

(NOTE: I was given a copy of this to review but all opinions are my own.)

Everyone who is anyone knows that if you build a sandcastle that a dragon will move in. That’s a given, isn’t it?

When a Dragon Moves in is a delightful children's picture book.
Reading the book.

Having a live-in dragon has its advantages. The dragon can roast your marshmallows.

Reading the book.

He can be your raft.

A little boy and a dragon floating on the water.

You can use him as a kite and to protect your sandcastle from beach bullies. (Don’t you just love the faces of those 2 kids in the picture below?)

Scaring the beach bullies away.

Those faces are so funny!

The book is funny.

When you tell your sister that your dragon has really sharp teeth, she won’t believe you.

The dragon and the boy.

The dragon will be your partner in crime to snitch some brownies, Yum!

Eating brownies.

When your sister tells you that there isn’t a dragon, your dragon will fling sand on her.

Throwing sand.

And that will be the last straw. Your mom will be upset. So will your dad.

Reading the book.

So, there’s only one thing to do. Kick the dragon out of your sandcastle until he learns his manners. Sigh.

And when he does, then his whole family moves into your sandcastle! (Don’t you just love the dragon family?)

The dragon's family moves into the sand castle.

This book is an absolute hoot! The storyline is appealing — especially to kids. Kids love building castles in the sand at the beach. And they love having a dragon for a friend — even if he is imaginary.

It’s a book that a grandparent — or parent — will not tire of reading over, and over, and over to kids. (That’s a huge plus to me.) The book will be captivating the first time you read it and even the 500th time.

The illustrations are delightful. The sandcastle is awesome. The faces. Their adorable expressions. All of them — especially the dragon’s. Little visual extras like the stickers on the suitcase, the little boy wearing a knight’s helmet (a sand bucket) on his head, the dragon using his tail to throw a frisbee to the boy add pizazz to the story.

This book would be a great addition to your personal library or a fabulous gift to a grandchild. I can’t recommend it enough!

So, hop on over to Amazon a get a copy — or several. A paperback one costs a mere $8 — and it will be money very well spent!
