Do your grandkids love popcorn as much as mine do? Then, this sweet Easter treat will be a hit with them.
(Sweet Easter treat. Boy howdy! Say THAT 10 times as fast as you can!)
This popcorn treat is super easy to make. Your grandkids could make it with minimal supervision. (The hardest part is to refrain from eating all of the ingredients before you finish making it!)
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 bag of microwave popcorn
- Wilton Candy Melts
- Pastel colored candy
- Edible decorating sprinkles
Are you an I’ve-gotta-have-the-exact-amounts kind of person? Well, sorry! I can’t give them to you. But! It’s okay if you don’t have any. You’ll see in a minute why it really doesn’t matter.
I was hoping to find pastel M&Ms but the store didn’t have any — and I didn’t want to chase around to other stores looking for some. I settled for pastel speckled malt eggs.
First, pop the popcorn in the microwave. (How did we ever cook in the pre-microwave era?)
Dump some of the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. How many? you ask. I dunno. Some. See how much I had in the bowl below? That was oodles for the one bag of popcorn.
Slowly melt the candies in your microwave for 1 minute at 50 percent power. Stir. Keep microwaving for 30 seconds until the candies are all melted. Depending on your microwave, this will take about 2 minutes.
Next, pour the chocolate over your popped corn. Dump in some candy and decorator sprinkles. How many? I dunno. Put in as much as suits your liking. The amounts really don’t matter. If you want lots, then put lots in. If you don’t, then don’t.
Stir. Let it sit until the chocolate cools and hardens.
And then enjoy! (Or make a couple of other batches because this is so delectable . . . and because you’ll have left over candy melts . . . and sprinkles . . . and pastel colored candy . . .
(Man oh man! The light in my kitchen really makes a huge difference in the color in my pictures. I sure hate that!)
But wait! I had some extra chocolate left over. Mmmmm . . . what to do with it? What to do?
Ah ha! I had a brilliant idea.
I also had some stick pretzels lounging around in my pantry. Those lazy buggers!
What about making chocolate dipped pretzels covered with sprinkles!
What a great way to use up the pretzels and the extra chocolate. Everything tastes better with chocolate on it, right? Sweet and salty is a yummy flavor combination!
Making this popcorn treat is the first part in a mini-series.
Stay tuned for part two where I show you how to make a cute Easter basket to put this little treat in. It’s super easy to make, too.
And it’s as cute as a bunny’s ear. (Oh. Wait. I think it’s supposed to be as cute as a bug’s ear. Whatever.)

So pretty and fun, but I need to avoid treats like this.

Cover a pretzel with anything and you have my attention. I can see the grands begging for these sweet treats.
That looks so fun!
