I know that St. Patrick’s Day is only 3 days away. (How did that happen? How did it come so fast? Where did the days go? Wasn’t it Halloween just yesterday?)
I also know that grandmothers are always on the lookout for easy activities to do with their grandkids — especially crafts and activities for holidays.
So. I have a super easy St. Patrick’s Day craft that you can do with your grandkiddos. One that takes but a few minutes to prepare for and one that appeals to grandkids and is easy for them to do.
And that is a shamrock lacing card.
Before we started this craft, I said, “What holiday is coming up?”
Elliot instantly shouted, “My birthday!”
That is true. His birthday is next Monday. However, I was referring to St. Patrick’s Day.
This lacing card is super easy to make for Paddy’s Day. First, download my free printable shamrock lacing card and print it up on green cardstock paper.
Cut out the shamrock and use a paper punch to punch out holes around the edges.
Cut a length of yarn. Wrap some tape around one end so it is easy to thread the yarn through the holes.
Then, let the grands have at it!
When your grandkids have laced around the whole shamrock, tie a knot and trim off the extra yarn. (My gold yarn represented the gold at the end of the rainbow that the leprechauns are always searching for.)
Then, have your grandkids pose for pictures. (That seemed to be a signal for them to pull funny faces and to bounce around! What a challenge to get pictures that weren’t blurry and where the kids didn’t look too goofy!)
Gotta check out what face big brother is making so little brother can do the same thing!
They both decide they were going to play statue and freeze their pose. Unfortunately, they were not facing the camera as they posed. Little rascals!
And, Elliot’s shamrock was backwards. Do you think I could convince him to change it so I could see the front? Oh no! He stayed still as still and didn’t move!
There you have it. An easy St. Patrick’s Day craft that your grandkids can do in 15 minutes or less.
Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

That’s true! All you have to do is find a holiday shape or picture, punch out holes, and you’re good to go! Thanks for dropping by.
Great project! Looks like they had fun doing it, too 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us at Creatively Crafty #ccbg
What a great craft and fun for the little ones. Thank you Nina for sharing this post at Wednesday AIM Link Party at Grammy’s Grid. I shared it on Pinterest. Hope you get lots of traffic!
What a fun craft, Nina, and what lovely photos! Isn’t it cute how kids get so excited for their birthdays? I hope Elliot has lots of fun on his! Sharing this post on our Hearth and Soul Facebook page later today. Thank you so much for sharing it with the Hearth and Soul Link Party!
I love the ease of your craft ideas! Most of the time I seem to get a little carried away. This shamrock is perfect and I know my grandkids would love lacing one of these up!
This is a great busy bag idea for the week! My four year old would LOVE it.
What a fun idea, Nina! I used to love lacing activities when I was a kid – it’s such a great way to learn a good basic skill as well as having the satisfaction of making something pretty! Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Hearth and Soul hop. Pinned!
Very nice, your grand kids are cute, thanks for sharing this idea with Hearth and soul blog hop.
I actually read this the other day and went to class and tried to find a print to copy and laminate for our kiddos. Ta da – found one to use next year.
You are the most creative grandma!
We appreciate that you share each week at SYC.
Hi Carol,
Most creative? Not sure about that but your words are sure kind! Thanks for dropping by!
Nina
Oh how I wish I could be closer to my grandchild! I want to do all these things you show me.
Hi Sheryl,
I feel your pain. Four of our grands do not live very close so we don’t get to see them as often. It makes my heart so sad!
Maybe you can do some of the things when your grandkids come for a visit or when you visit them.
Nina
Hi Sheryl,
Isn’t it awful when the grandkids live faraway? Maybe you could make little kits of some of my ideas and send the kits to your grandkids to do. (Or send the printables through e-mail.)
Warmly,
Nina
