I absolutely love to read! And I tried to distill that love into my children — and now my grandchildren.
Years ago I wrote about Read Across America. The National Education Association launched that program to foster a love of reading in elementary-aged kids. They chose to celebrate it on March 2nd because that is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. A great choice of days, eh?
(In that post I shared a site where you could create fun signs for your grandkids based on Dr. Seuss characters. I know that all of you are so clever and creative so you might wanna check it out . . . )
Now where was I? Oh, yes. Read Across America.
Elementary schools often have activities to celebrate this day. But, hey! I don’t go to an elementary school. (I did but that was in the last millennium . . .)
But I DO have grandkids in elementary school. And older than that. And younger.
And I DO want to celebrate reading — especially for my grandkids.
Since March 2nd is just around the corner, I got to thinking. (I know. I know. That’s a rare event for me . . . )
So here’s the deal. I made some bookmarks and gave them to my grandkids — along with a book. I’m sharing those bookmarks with you, Dear Reader, in case you’d like to print them and give them to your own grandchildren. (And maybe one for yourself. Whaddya think?)
I’ve made them to be printed on card stock, folded over, and glued shut so that there is a picture on both sides. You could laminate them or cover them with clear contact paper which would help the bookmark last longer.

Read-osaurus and Bookworm bookmarks (These were really a hit with grandkids.)
Cat and Owl bookmarks (My grandkids loved these, too.)
Get Comfy and Escape Reality bookmarks
Shhh and To Read bookmarks
Get Lost and Love Reading bookmarks
I would be remiss if I didn’t share some of my favorite books for kids. For young adults, there’s Code Name Verity and We Were Liars. I love, love, love these books!
I’ve written about the top 34 favorite kids books that were chosen by kids. (I also shared 12 things that grandparents can do with grandkids to build a love of reading in their grandkids.)
And a really long time ago, I shared a craft for making fridge magnets that said ‘read’.
There you have it. Bookmarks. Book recommendations. A craft. So, go get reading — and encourage your grandkids to read, too. Oh. And print out some bookmarks while you’re at it.

I love the cat ones. Thank you.
I’m glad you like it! It’s a fun one.
