Elevator Up

Elevator Up is a fun card game based on the floors an elevator stops at. A great family game!

(NOTE: I was given a free game of Elevator Up but all opinions are my own.)

I love playing card games with grandkids! I love it when we learn new ones. And I especially love it when the game is easy to learn and fun to play. Elevator Up fits that bill to a T!

The goal of this game is to be the first one to get rid of all of your cards.

Briefly, here’s how you play.

The first player lays down a ‘floor card.’

Here are some cards in Elevator Up.

The next player has to lay down a floor card that is a higher floor number.

Sound easy, right?

But wait!

If a player can’t put a floor card down that is a higher number or if he can’t put down a specialty card, then he has to pick up the whole discard pile. Yikes!

There are 5 specialty cards. If a player lays down the ‘new building’ card, the discard pile is out of play and is set aside. This is good because it eliminates the discard pile so when a player has to pick it up there aren’t so many cards.

A ‘closed door’ card makes the next player skip a turn. Rats.

The ‘lobby’ card sends the elevator down to the lobby. This is good because players can then play their low floor cards. (Which also means a player won’t end up stuck with not being able to play a higher floor card and having to pick up the discard pile.)

If someone plays the ‘stuck’ card, the next player HAS to beat the previous card by playing a higher floor card. If he can’t do that, he has to pick up the discard pile.

The ‘penthouse’ card represents the highest floor. The next player has to play a specialty card. If he can’t, he hast to pick up the discard pile.

Our family loved playing the game Elevator Up.

There are few other things in the rules but that is basically how to play.

Here’s a great video about the game.

My grandkids quickly understood how to play. When we finished it, they clamored to play it again. And again. They loved it and were absolutely thrilled when I let them take the game home.

One thing that I especially like about this game is its creator, Harrison. He is 17 years-old! Isn’t that amazing? I love supporting such a young entrepreneur and applaud him and his efforts.

I highly recommend this game. I give it two thumbs up. It’s great for the whole family — and it’s even appealing to parents and grandparents!
