Our kids loved to play night games during the summertime.
What are night games? you ask.
Simple. They are just games that you play in the nighttime with a group of people.
So, when you have a group of grandkids and evening rolls around, have them play ghosts in the graveyard. It’s a terrific game to play! And the cool thing is that you don’t need to prepare anything!
This is a game of hide-and-go-seek. Only with a slight twist. Here’s how you play it.
After the sun goes down, have everyone go outside. Select an area to be ‘home.’
Choose two of your grandchildren to be ghosts. Send them off to go and hide.
While they are finding a hiding place, everyone else gathers in the ‘home’ area. They close their eyes and loudly count ‘one, o’clock, two o’clock, three o’clock’ until they get to midnight. When they yell midnight, they run in search of the ghosts.
If a player sees one of the ghosts, she yells, “Ghost in the graveyard, run, run, run!” Upon hearing this, everybody (except the ghosts) races back to home.
The ghosts now begin chasing the other players. If they tag someone, that person becomes a ghost in the next round.
When all of the other players are either in home or are tagged as a ghost, play begins again. The ghosts hide while the others count down to midnight.
Now comes the challenge. If there are more ghosts, the other players will have a harder time making their way safely to home after a ghost has been discovered.
Once all players have become ghosts, the game is over.
Of course your grandkids could keep playing until they are worn out and ready to go into your home for milk and cookies (or whatever treat that you have for them).
And, if you’re spry enough, grandma, it would be fun if you joined in and played with your grandkids!

I remember playing this as a kid in the 80s with all the neighbor kids. Ahh times were good!
How fun!!
You just have the cutest ideas! And all of them easy to do with minimal prep work. My grandkids LOVE being outside after dark – it’s a luxury for them because mom and dad are usually too whipped to let them stay up and play. It’s a grandma-grandpa thing here and we love providing that fun!
Thanks so much for your nice compliment! Minimal work and cost are my two criteria — I guess I’m lazy that way! Sounds like your a fabulous grandma to step up and make sure your grandkids have a good time when the parents are pooped!
