National Geographic recently released their latest in their “Little Kids First Big Book” series. It’s the Little Kids First Big Book of Science.
If you are familiar at all with anything that the National Geographic puts out, you’ll know that it’s a high quality product. And this one hits high quality out of the park!
One of the first appealing things is the use of bright colors. Oranges and yellows . . .
. . . blues and greens . . .
Kids, grandparents, parents — everybody! — will love the bright bold colors.
And the pictures! Oh my! They are stupendous! Not only are they stunning, they are also very appealing to kids. Don’t you just love that picture of the girl eating an ice cream cone?
I was amazed at how much information there was. It broadly covers all branches of science — astronomy, paleontology, and botany to name a few.
It explains that scientists study things like volcanoes, oceans, space, animals, plants, and even engineering!
And the best thing is that it uses simple language that kids can easily understand. It’s easy for beginning readers or for grandma to read aloud to a grandchild.
It also helps kids learn how to be a scientist by asking questions and doing simple experiments and then recording what they find in a special notebook. There are also activities and games that encourage hands-on learning. Fun!
Fun facts are scattered throughout the book. Such as the fact that a Nile crocodile can weigh as much as a piano or that it takes 1 million tiny water droplets to form a single raindrop.Who knew?
This book was a big hit with my grandkids!
One of our favorite things were the pages about skeletons and x-rays. We loved it because grandpa took x-rays and did CAT scans for his career!
If I could use only one word to describe this book it would be excellent. Or maybe fabulous. Or exciting. Or having lots of kid appeal (but that’s more than one word!).
My grandkids and I highly recommend this book! It would make a great addition to your personal library. And since it is hardbound, it will easily withstand the use by all of your grandkids!
