Christmas is such a wonderful time of year to do crafts with grandkids! Those crafts are always so colorful and fun!
My granddaughters had a ball making these Christmas tea light jars. They were so easy to make — and inexpensive because I had everything on hand. Well except for the bells.
Here’s what you’ll need to make them:
- empty jam jar
- fake snow (or Epsom salt)
- Mod Podge
- craft brush
- plastic Christmas greenery
- red raffia or craft twine
- red bells
- tea lights
- hot glue gun
I had a couple of empty jars from jam that we got at Kneaders. I thought those were the perfect size. You could use any empty jars that you happen to have on hand like pickle relish jars or mason jars.
Spread Mod Podge on a section of your jar. Make sure it is a nice coat and not thin! (I found it was easier to do sections at a time so that the Mod Podge didn’t dry out before you added the fake snow.)
Hold your jar over a paper plate. Sprinkle the fake snow over the Mod Podge. (You could also sprinkle Epsom salt on if you didn’t have any fake snow.)
Keep applying the snow until the jar is completely covered.
Set the jar aside until the Mod Podge is dry.
Glue the plastic Christmas greenery at the top of the jar.
String a couple of bells on the red raffia. Tie a knot and glue on to the jar.
Wrap the red raffia around the top of the jar and hot glue it on as you go. (You could use craft twine if you didn’t have red raffia.)
(You’ll notice that I don’t have any pictures of the those steps. I was helping my granddaughters with the hot glue so they wouldn’t get burned. I couldn’t take pictures at the same time. Grandpa was busy playing with his grandson and didn’t take any pictures. Oh well!)
Put a tea light from a dollar store in your jar.
And there you have it! A festive Christmas tea light jar.
Wasn’t that easy?
These jars really add to Christmas decorations, don’t you think?

I love the tea lights. I’m picturing them on my mantel. I’m going to Pin this post for next year’s Christmas crafts. Thanks for sharing on Sunday’s Best.
I hope that you have fun making them next Christmas!! Happy New Year!
Nina,
I’m visiting from Inspire Me Monday. This does look like a fun and festive DIY project for youngsters. I think this is something I’d like to try when my granddaughter is older. She’s only 2 months old now, so I have a while to wait for us to tackle this project. Have a blessed 2019!
Cathy, I’m so happy for you that you have a sweet baby granddaughter! Grandchildren are the best!
Thanks for dropping by!
