Two weeks ago at our Party in Your PJs link party, I featured tissue paper party straws.
Those straws got my little pea brain a-thinkin’.
The 4th of July will soon be upon us. That’s the perfect time to have a family get together. And the perfect time to have an easy craft for the grandkids.
So, I adapted the tissue paper straw idea and applied it to pencils.
Voilá! I give you sparkler pencils!
The nice thing about this little craft is that it takes minimal supplies and you can complete this craft in less than 10 minutes!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- red, white, and blue tissue paper
- red, white, and blue pencils
- scissors
- tape
Cut rectangles out of the tissue paper that are 4 inches by 6 inches.
Fold each rectangle in half
Starting at the unfolded edge, cut slits 3/4 the way to the fold making a fringe.
Place the folded edge of a rectangle partially down from the eraser. Wrap the paper around the pencil and tape it on. Slightly bend the strips down.
And you’re done!
I combined blue tissue paper with white and taped it to the red pencil. I liked having 2 colors on the pencil so that the pencil’s color theme was red, white, and blue. If I had thought about it soon enough, I would have done it with the other pencils, too.
Now that your sparkler pencils are finished, use them to do the following activities:
I hope these pencils will brighten your 4th of July holiday activities!

Great project to do with kids, Nina. Very cute!
What a fun, patriotic idea, Nina! These are the perfect craft for the 4th of July. Of course we don’t celebrate the 4th over here in England but they would work here too because our national colours are red, white and blue as well! Thank you for sharing with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop.
April,
You know, you could do any color combination to go with whatever is the current holiday . . . and call the pencils . . . . . . party pencil??? 🙂

Very crafty and creative indeed. Love the theme. I can think of so many colors to use for other holidays too.
Very cute!! I am not a crafty person but I think this is simple enough that I could teach the grandkids to do this…haha
Pamela,
I’m not very crafty either, but these were super easy to make. And not frustrating, either! (That’s important to me. 🙂 )
