How would you like a patriotic craft that you could complete in mere minutes?
As in less than 10?
And one that is super inexpensive?
And one that doesn’t require a skill level more than stirring and more than moving a paint brush back and forth?
One that even a 4-year-old grandchild can do?
And one that you can use for any patriotic holiday — like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Veterans Day?
Well, folks, I have just the craft for you! This sea glass craft is so easy that you could whip it up in time for your 4th of July celebration.
Wahoo!
Here are the supplies that you’ll need:
- white school glue
- food coloring
- plastic cups
- vases from a dollar store
- sponge paint brush
- craft stick (not pictured because I totally forgot to put it in the picture!!)
- candles (also not pictured because I also forgot to include them…)
Are you ready for this super easy craft? Great! Let’s get started.
First, dump about 2 tablespoons of glue in your plastic cup. Don’t worry about measuring. Just eyeball it. (But don’t pour in a lot because this craft doesn’t use much!)
Squeeze in some blue food coloring. The more drops you squeeze in the darker the color will be. Stir with your craft stick.
Brush a light coat all over your vase. Make sure you have even strokes and that you don’t have any globs. Set it aside to dry. (I put it on waxed paper so I wouldn’t get any of my glue/paint on my countertop.)
Pour more glue in another cup. Squeeze in red food coloring. Stir. Spread your red paint over another vase. Set aside to dry.
Drying is the longes step. But have patience. Because your final product will be beautiful!
Put some candles in them and you have gorgeous patriotic candles that you can use to decorate your table for the 4th of July!
You could either do this craft in advance with your grandchildren or you could have them do this on the 4th when they come over to your house to celebrate the holiday!
Happy 4th of July!

Sorry Nina, I was on vacation last week and my post didn’t go. It will be one of my features this week instead at the Snickerdoodle link party!
I love the look of sea glass and how fun to make it patriotic! This will be one of my features this Saturday at the Snickerdoodle link party!
Yippee! This made my day! Thanks so much.
Very clever and simple to make. Could put some glitter in with the glue as well. Kids could make them for gifts for friends. Love it!
I never thought of glitter! That would be really cool to add. What a great suggestion.
