Did you see the patriotic sea glass craft that I did for the 4th of July?
I thought that it turned out really pretty!
That craft was inspired by a super easy sea glass craft that I did with my granddaughters.
I should have written about THAT craft before I wrote about the patriotic one.
But life was crazy and time was short.
So, I’m finally getting around to sharing the craft my granddaughters did.
They turned regular, clear glass candlesticks into sea glass ones!
Here’s what you need:
- Clear glass candlestick holders from the Dollar Store
- White school glue
- Food coloring
- Paintbrush
- Plastic cups
Oh. You should cover your workspace to protect it and to make clean up fast. We used waxed paper.
Pour some glue into the bottom of a plastic cup. Squirt in some food coloring.
Stir to mix really good. We used toothpicks but that was kind of hard. When I did the patriotic sea glass craft, I used craft sticks (like big popsicle sticks). That worked MUCH better!
Emma wanted purple so we squirted in red and blue to make purple for her.
Natalie wanted teal so we squirted in a wee bit of blue. The blue mixed with the white glue gave her the color she wanted.
Make sure to just paint a thin coat. You don’t want a thick one because then your candlestick wouldn’t look like sea glass!
Didn’t the candlesticks turn out pretty?
Emma is five years old and she did a great job. I think younger grandkids would have a hard time with this craft.
So, you can do this craft with grandkids from ages 5 up to . . . well with folks up to my age!

I love sea glass and this is such a good idea. I had no idea that this would make my glass look like sea glass. Thank you for sharing at Classy Flamingos Blog Party.

I just have to ask Nina, did you do this craft with your grandkids after I shared my post on your link party back in May? If so I’m flattered and honored ? It is such a great project isn’t it!
Actually, I saw it on Pinterest a year ago. I just got around to doing it with the grandkids.
