(NOTE: I was given a 3D Sprigraph to review but all opinions are my own.)
Did you have a Spirograph when you were a kid? Me neither. Sigh. (I missed out because I was born in the Mesozoic Era and the Spirograph didn’t hit the kid scene until 1965.)
But everybody is familiar with it. Right?
Even if you didn’t have one as a kid, you probably got one for your own children. Or your grandkids. Or maybe you bought one to keep at your house for the grandkids to use when they come for a visit (and for doodling with it yourself).
A Spirograph has an enduring kid appeal. Even though it came out over 50 years ago, today’s kids enjoy it just as much as kids did back in the day.
Kids don’t have to have any artistic skill to make beautiful designs with it.
They don’t have to have any technical skills.
All they need is the snazzy Spirograph pieces. Oh, and a pen or pencil.
Well, the folks at Spirograph have taken it one step further. They’ve made a 3D version!
And how does the 3D version work, exactly? you ask. It uses the same gears as the old version, doesn’t it?
True. It does.
However!
This version comes with 3D glasses. And some special 3D pads of paper. When you create a design on that paper and then look at your design through the glasses, your designs pop right off the page. Awesome!
The set also comes with all of the usual stuff — a ring, rack, bar, gears, putty (to hold things together so they don’t slip while you’re drawing), and some pens.
It also comes with 2 sheets of stickers and a design book. How cool is that?
Our granddaughter absolutely LOVED using the 3D Spirograph. (So did her older brothers and their friend — but they weren’t interested in getting their picture taken . . . )
This would make a perfect birthday or Christmas gift for a grandchild. I give it 2 thumbs up!
Spirograph 3D is for kids ages 8+. (Our granddaughter just turned 7 and didn’t have any problems with it.) You can get it from PlayMonster for $20.99.
