Doing Valentine crafts with your sweet little Valentines is a terrific activity. Lots of love there, don’t you think?
I have a heart craft for you that is super easy to make and super inexpensive!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- red, pink, or white copy paper (I used bright colors instead of pastels.)
- 3/16 inch dowel
- scissors
- glue stick
- glue gun
Take one of your pieces of paper. I started with white. On a short side, fold the paper over about 2 1/2 inches. (Don’t worry about being exact.)
Cut along the edge that isn’t folded.
Next, cut at an angle from the folded edge at the bottom to the non-folded side. At the other end, cut off the corners so they are rounded off,
You’ll get a shape that looks like a fat pencil.
At the pointed end, start fan-folding the paper.
This is what the finished fan-folding will look like.
Fold it in half and press the fold really good.
From one color of paper, cut out 2 hearts that are approximately 4 inches at the widest point. (I cut my big hearts from white paper.)
Then cut out 1 heart that is a little bit smaller. (Mine was cut out of the red paper.)
Glue the smaller heart on 1 of the bigger hearts.
Dab a bit of hot glue up a little ways from the point of the inner heart (my red one in the picture).
Press the folded point of the folded paper into the glue. Press and hold.
Cut a 9-inch length of the dowel stick.
Squirt some hot glue at one end of the stick. Press the back side of your heart into the glue making sure the stick lines up with the point of the heart.
Use the glue stick, put glue on the back of your other big heart (that you haven’t done anything to).
Press it to the back of the heart that you super glued to the dowel stick. (That finishes off the back side of your heart so you don’t see where the dowel stick is glued on.)
Ta da! You’re done!
You can chose any color combination of paper. You can have several sizes of hearts glued together on the front of your heart. Or, you can only have one heart. Be creative!
You can make several of these and put on dowel sticks of different lengths. Then, you can put them in a small flower vase or mason jar like a bouquet of Valentine posies.
Happy crafting!
