Augmented reality has been around for a while.
Well crikey!
I just became aware of a cool app for augmented reality that is fun for kids.
Way fun.
Outta-this-world-fun.
(Click on the picture to the left to get a good view of it.)
I don’t know which I liked best: seeing the 3-dimensional augmented figures or seeing my grandkids coloring the pages and having fun with the app.
That free augmented reality app is Quiver from QuiverVision.com. They have some free coloring pages and some sets that cost $2.99
I like the set of pictures from the Amazing Animals From New Zealand. So, I forked over the $2.99.
Here are my grandchildren coloring away. Spencer is coloring a picture of penguins. Kaylissa is coloring a picture of the smallest dolphins in the world.
“We’re almost finished coloring and ready for the app, Grandma!” (Aren’t they sweeties!)
Here is the finished page for the dolphins. I love the rainbow colored one!
Now that you’ve seen the coloring page, take a look at what it looks like in augmented reality.
Isn’t that simply amazing?
Here is the finished page for the penguins.
Now, watch the augmented reality video.
Isn’t that outta-this-world cool? I think so, too!
At one point, my grandkids tried catching the swimming dolphins.
At first, they were confused. They could see the dolphins swimming around. But when they looked at the paper, they were just a flat image.
When they looked at their page on my iPad, the picture came to life. The animals and seaweed became 3 dimensional and swam around.
Then, my granddaughter got the idea to see if she could get the penguin to sit on her hand. Success! It quietly sat there — as long as she didn’t move!
Like I said, some of the coloring pages cost $2.99. The set about the amazing animals from New Zealand cost $2.99.
However, there are some free coloring pages. Here are links to the free ones:
- Vocalno and cells and an earth
- Quiver Starter (with a pukeko bird, fireworks, and a fire engine)
- Christmas present
Take a moment to head over to Quiver.com to get the coloring pages and the free app. This will give you and your grandkids loads of fun. You can sit in your cool, air-conditioned house coloring and playing with 3-D figures to your hearts content.
(NOTE: I did not receive any remuneration for writing this post nor did I get free copies of the coloring pages that are for purchase.)

Hi! I am the the CTO at QuiverVision, creators of the Quiver app. Thanks for sharing this fantastic write up about our app! We love to see what our users come up with. If anyone has any questions about Quiver, please feel free to ask. Enjoy coloring!
How neat! Recently my husband came home from the San Diego Comic Con with a Google Cardboard that allows you to take virtual tours. My kids had the best time “touring” the Palace of Versailles! Maybe your grandkids would like it.
Visiting from Shine Blog Hop.
Oh! I’d love to see that Google Cardboard. I’ll have to take a look at it. Thanks for mentioning it.
Nina
Wow, that is very cool! I will definitely have to look into this for my kids. I’m visiting today from the #shinebloghop.

Nina, I don’t know if you are aware of this, but when you leave me comments on my blog and I reply back to you via email, it kicks back and not sending them. Do you have a new email address? If so, could you email me back and let me know what it is. I can’t reply to your comments on the old one. Thanks.
Great post and what a cool idea!
This is amazing. Never even heard of something like this. Thanks for the videos, it gives me enough information to want to try it with the kids. I pinned this immediately!
Amazing indeed! I hope your kids like it as much as my grandkids did! Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
