I know that Halloween is just around the corner.
As in just days away.
You probably have all of your Halloween decorations up.
You’ve probably done Halloween crafts with your grandkids.
But!
But in case you haven’t, I have a SUPER easy and SUPER fun craft for you!
And, it’s inexpensive!
Here are the things that you’ll need:
- glass vase from a dollar store (mine measured 3 inches across the top)
- Mod Podge
- foam brush
- yellow, orange, and red tissue paper
- wax paper
- Xacto knife
- my free Halloween tea light printable
- battery operated tea light from a dollar store
(My apologies for not having a picture of the supplies. We were so excited to do this craft that I totally spaced out taking a picture of them!)
We cut the tissue paper in strips that were approximately 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. (Smallish pieces wrap around the vase easier than long pieces.)
I poured some Mod Podge on a piece of waxed paper so my granddaughters could easily get some on their foam brush.
They tipped their glass vase upside down and brushed on some Mod Podge. Then, they placed the strips onto the vase starting with the yellow tissue paper first.
After putting on a couple of rows of yellow tissue paper, they put on orange tissue paper.
When they had covered about half of the case, they turned it over and finished the top half. At the top of the vase, they put on red tissue paper.
While we were doing that, my wonderful daughter used the Xacto knife to cut out the silhouette figures.
When the vases were all covered with tissue paper, the girls pressed the Halloween figures onto the jar (before the Mod Podge dried) and spread a final top coat of Mod Podge over them and all over the vase.
I held the vase so that Emma could put on the top coat of Mod Podge . . .
Didn’t they turn out fun!
Now that you know how to make these fun Halloween tea lights, lemme tell you what I learned making them.
The silhouettes were rather small for the vases that we had. And, the designs had lots of detail. So, my daughter had a hard time cutting them out.
So, when I made a Halloween tea light for myself, I made the silhouettes bigger. I simplified the pumpkin’s face and the bat. And, I didn’t use the cat silhouette. (The bigger sizes that I used are in the free printable download I made for you.)
Have a wonderful time doing this Halloween craft with your grandkiddos!
May your Halloween be fun — and may you not run out of trick or treating candy!

were the black silhouettes made of construction paper?
No. They were printed on regular copy paper.
Nina, these came out SO cute! Looks like your grandkids had fun making them too. Thank you so much for sharing with us at the Whimsical Wednesdays Link Party and have a wonderful week!
