I just fell in love.
With a craft.
Man oh man, I love this little jewelry dish!
This has got to be one of the easiest and fastest — and FUN — crafts ever! Seriously.
I guarantee your tween and teen granddaughters will absolutely love making them. They’ll also love having a flock either to keep or to give away!
Here are the supplies that you will need to make these little darlin’s:
- Oven bake Sculpey clay in 3-4 colors
- Cookie cutter
- Gold acrylic paint (optional)
- Rolling pin
- Muffin tin
- Clear varnish spray
Cut off a chunk of each of the colors of clay.
Roll the clay into long pencil shapes. Have 2 rope shapes of one or two colors.
Gather up the ropes and gently squeeze them together. Roll all of the clay into one big pencil shape.
Then, bring the two ends together . . .
. . . and twist the clay.
Then, wad the clay up into a ball . . .
. . . and roll it out into a circle that is 1/4 inch thick.
Use your cookie cutter to cut out a circle shape.
Gently put into a cup in a muffin tin. Lightly press the clay down to make it bowl shaped. Smooth around the edges with your finger.
This process took me around 5 minutes. So, I decided to make another jewelry dish that was heart shaped. (The heart is in the top right hand corner of the muffin tin.) You could use other cookie cutter shapes like one that has scolloped edges or a diamond shape. Whatever shape you have on hand.
Then, bake your dishes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. Cool.
I wanted to jazz up the dishes so I painted the edges a metallic gold acrylic paint.
When the paint has dried, spray a light coat of clear varnish on both sides of the dish. Let the varnish dry and voilá! You have a little jewelry dish!
I’m glad I painted the edges because the black clay on the edges made it look burnt to me! The gold paint covered that up and made the dishes look so pretty!
The dark pink color that I used had glitter in it. I love how it sparkles — especially after I sprayed the dishes with varnish.
I think that next time we make these dishes I will make the black rope thinner so that the black was a smaller marbled vein.
Now. Go round up your granddaughters and have a party making these little jewelry dishes. You’ll have a ball. I promise!
