Glitter Luminaries

These glitter luminaries are super easy -- and inexpensive -- to make!

I am becoming enamored with luminaries.

Remember that I started out with the castle ones?

Then I wrote about lovely luminaries using tissue papers in a jar?

Well, here’s another simple, simple luminary that’s easy to make with your grandchildren. Glitter luminaries.

All you need to make them is some glue, glitter, and a jar. Oh, and a battery operated tea light. (I love those things!)

Here are the supplies that you'll need.
All you need is glitter, glue, and a jar.

Pour a little bit of glue into a bowl. You don’t need much. Add some water to thin it down. Now, paint a thin coat on the inside of the jar.

Brush Mod Podge inside your jar.

Sprinkle glitter inside the jar. Roll the jar around and around so that the glitter will stick all over the inside of the jar. Don’t sprinkle a whole bunch of glitter. If it’s too thick, the light won’t shine through very much. (Voice of experience here . . .)

Lightly sprinkle in som glitter.
Sprinkle in some glitter.

Set the jar aside until the glue is dry. (This is my first try and see how the glitter was way too thick? So, I filled the jar with hot water. After letting it soak for a while, I scrubbed off the glitter. Then, I added a smidgeon more glue, and a wee bit of glitter.)

Let the glue dry.

When the glue is dry, turn on a battery-powered tea light, put it in the jar, and enjoy the luminary.

(This is MUCH better with a thin sprinkling of glitter!)

See how it glows!

You can tie raffia or ribbons around the top if you’d like.

We’re going to have a family reunion in August. I’m going to take empty baby food jars for the grandkids to make these glitter luminaries. It will be fun to have the luminaries on the picnic table in the evening. And, the grandkids can use them as nightlights when they go to bed. (Sleeping away from home can be scarey for wee ones.)
