Have you heard of resist art?
That is where you use two incompatible mediums to create a work of art.
I have seen on the Internet how people have used a hot glue gun to create a design on a paper and paint over it.
So, I created this resist art I Am Thankful activity for your grandkids to do.
Here is a list of items you will need:
- I Am Thankful free printable
- watercolor paint
- hot glue gun
Print out the I Am Thankful page. Trace around the words and the pumpkins with the hot glue. Let it cool.
Make sure your grandchild puts an apron on to protect her clothing. Then let her paint away. The area where the glue is will ‘resist’ the paint.
If you don’t have water color paints, you can put some acrylic paint on a lid from a plastic whipped topping container (a.k.a. Cool Whip), slightly thin the paint with water, and then use a sponge paint brush to paint over the whole paper.
They could use only one color. Or they can be creative and use more colors blending where the edges of the colors meet. Creativity is the modus operandi here, folks.
Ta da! Here is the finished product.
(Where is Emma? you ask. The length of her attention span was all used up in painting. She didn’t want to sit to have her picture taken. Oh well . . .)
If you really want to be creative, draw a Thanksgiving design freehand on your paper. Like leaves. A corncob. Or a turkey. (Can you freehand draw a turkey?)
Or, you could write your grandchild’s name.
If your grandchild is old enough, let her use the glue gun to create her own design. Just make sure she can handle the glue gun without getting burned. (You might want her to practice on a scratch paper first.)
Happy painting!

Super cute! I’m the kids had fun, too. Thanks for sharing at Funtastic Friday.
How cute! We have tried a few resist art projects but I never thought to break out our glue gun! You have inspired me and I think I have a pretty good idea of an easy art project for today. Pinned.
