Want one of the easiest Christmas crafts ever for your grandkids to do?
Make a pine cone Christmas tree.
Holy guacamole, Batman! They are so easy to make that you could whip one out in 5 minutes or less — unless your grandkids get glue stuck all over their fingers. (Voice of experience here, folks!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- pine cones
- mini pompoms
- white school glue
We have tons of pine trees around our home. So, I merely went outside and gathered up a few pine cones. (If anybody wants some, I’d be happy to mail you some!)
I had a hard time finding mini pompoms. I don’t know what was going on but the shelves were bare when I went to get some.
I had to go to a couple of stores — several times!! (And this was in the middle of November before the Christmas holiday shopping rush started!)
Let’s talk a moment about glue. If your glue is old . . . say possibly over 10 years old (yes, that’s how long I’ve had this glue!) . . . then I suggest you might want to get new glue. (Say THAT five times fast!)
My glue was so old that it was super thick. I couldn’t squeeze it out of the bottle.
I guess I could have added water to thin it down. But, my granddaughter wanted to pour it onto a Cool Whip container lid. That way, she could dip her mini pompoms in the glue.
But that meant that she got glue all over her fingers. She didn’t mind — until the pompoms stuck more to her fingers than to the pine cone. That made it tricky to make the pompoms stick to the pine cone.
Ta da! Here is her finished little Christmas tree. She was so proud of it.
And, I was proud of her. She did a great job!

Love this pine cone christmas craft, my daughter used to bring it from her kindergarten, Thanks for sharing with Hearth and soul blog hop, pinning, tweeting and featuring on this week’s blog hop.
Adorable! We made pom pom trees with a styrofoam cone base. I think the pine cones work even better!
Hi Shecki,
Styrofoam cones would work great, too! That would be such a fun activity for kids. Thanks so much for dropping by. I appreciate it.
Warmest wishes,
Nina
This is so cute. Makes me wish I had done this with my kids when they were younger.
Sherry,
I know what you mean! When I see all the stuff on Pinterest, I wish I had had that resource when my kids were young!
Best,
Nina
Perfect craft for my 3 and 5 year old grandchildren! They love doing things independently and this should work well for that. Thank you for sharing it! I saw this on the Grand Social.
