Do you remember the animal pop-up pals that we make a while ago? My grandkids went crazy and made a bazillion of them.
Well, after I made the monster bingo last week, I couldn’t get those little critters out of my mind. I thought they were so cute.
What else could I do with them?
Hmmm . . . hmmm . . . hmmm . . .
It didn’t take me too long to come up with the brilliant idea. Make monster pop-ups.
Monster pop-ups! Huzzah!
They will be just as fun for your grandkids to make as the animal pop-ups.
To make them, you will need:
Free monster pop-up printables
Colored cardstock
Scissors
Glue
First, print out the monster pop-ups.
Cut out 2 pieces of cardstock that are 8.5 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
(I didn’t measure the pieces of paper. I just eye-balled the width as I cut it.)
Cut a circle that is about 2 inches in diameter out of the same color of cardstock. (You know, you could use different colors if you want. That could be a fun variation — add to the monster-ness.)
Put some glue at the end of one of the long pieces.
Place the other piece on top at a right angle and press down. Hold for a moment or two.
Then, fold the bottom piece over so it is on top of the other piece.
Fold the other piece over so it is on top. Continue folding it accordion style until you can’t fold any more. Glue the two top ends together. Press and hold.
This is what your pop-up strip will look like.
Put some glue on one end and press it to the center of the circle. Press and hold.
Then, glue on the monster pop-up and you’re done!
Crikey! Like, I said, aren’t they cute?
NOTE: When one of my grandsons made the animal pop-ups, he tried to cut them out precisely around the figures. He had a hard time because some of the animals had small details that were hard to cut around.
These monsters have even more small details. They would be extremely hard to cut around. So, I put these monsters inside a circle. Have your grandkids cut along the circle and not exactly around the monsters.
You could make these sweeties at your Halloween party that you have for your grandkids. Or, you could make them whenever the mood strikes. You don’t have to make them just at Halloween time!
Do your grandchildren live far away from you? Can’t have the over for a Halloween party? don’t despair. E-mail them the free printable so they can have fun making them.
Let’s hear it for monster pop-ups!
