Remember when I wrote about using QR codes for a scavenger hunt for your grandchildren?
Well, you haven’t seen anything yet!
Hold on to your hat as I take you on a wild ride of more things to do with QR codes.
This is the first in a three part series of more-fun-things-to-do-with-QR-codes-that-will-impress-your-grandchildren.
Black and white QR codes are so last year.
Why not have a lime green one?
Or a blue one?
Or orange, purple, pink, or red? Huh?
I’m just saying, color is where it’s at.
Like this.
Or this.
It’s extremely easy to make your colored codes.
1. Go to QRStuff.com. Start with plain text. It’s the easiest to do. Click in the radio circle to the left of plain text.
2. Write what you want your code to say.
3. Click on the color slider and move it up or down until you get the color you want. You can click in the color box to the left to select a lighter shade. (The slider doesn’t work in Firefox on a Mac.)
4. Now, download it, print it, or e-mail it to your wonderful grandchildren.
If you are feeling rather adventuresome, play around with the other options that are listed under the data type.
I created a Make Colored QR Codes PDF document of these instructions so that you could print it out to follow while you made your colored codes. Hopefully that will make it easy for you to make your codes.
What else besides a scavenger hunt can you do with QR codes?
I thought that you would never ask.
- Send them knock knock jokes — or any other type of joke. (I’m going to take this to a whole new level in part two of QR Codes on steroids.)
- Write a letter (using several QR codes) to your far away grandchildren — or ANY grandchild!
- Send a happy birthday wish via a QR code.
- Wish a grandchild good luck on an upcoming soccer tournament game or a piano or dance recital.
- Send an invitation to a get together at your house or to a reunion or to grandma camp or to a birthday party that you are throwing for a grandchild.
- Make a bookmark with the code on it.
- Create a game with them. This is especially fun to do with a group of grandchildren. Write a bunch of questions. Divide into two teams. Team members take turns picking a code, scanning it, and then answering it. They get a point if they get the answer correct. The team with the most points wins.
So, make a colorful bunch of QR codes and have fun with them.
Stay tune for part two in QR Codes on Steroids.

Well isn’t this fun! I love your list of ideas of what to do with QR codes.
This would be right up my daughter’s alley!
Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
Wishing you a lovely day.

What fabulous ideas! I had no idea you could do this with QR codes! Thank you so much for sharing this post with us at Hearth and Soul. Pinned and shared!
This is very interesting. I have created my own QR code for work before. Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday.
Wow. You really, really, REALLY find the coolest stuff! My grandkids are too young for this, and I suspect that by the time they are older the games will be obsolete. That’s okay – I’ll just come back here to see what your latest fun thingie is!
I am so happy that you like the things that I share. You are so sweet — and you made my day!
