10 Minute Vintage Valentine Craft

Here is a vintage Valentine craft that you can make in 10 minutes.

Holidays are so fun with grandkids! And part of that fun is making a holiday craft with them.

I know that you’re all busy. Many of you don’t have tons of time to spend shopping for craft supplies and then spending tons of time making the craft — or tons of time cleaning up afterwards.

Me neither.

That’s why I like crafts that take minimal preparation and don’t take hours to make. Besides, my grandkids are still at the age where they don’t have the attention span for crafts that take a long time to complete.

Where does that leave us?

With crafts that you can make in 10 minutes.

Huzzah for easy crafts!

So I have a vintage Valentine craft for you, Dear Readers, that you can do in 10 minutes!

Yes, really. Ten minutes.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Here are the supplies that you'll need.

Print the vintage Valentine graphics on a laser printer. If you use an ink jet printer, the Mod Podge will smear the ink.

Cover your work space so you don’t get Mod Podge all over it. I just used a piece of wax paper.

Cut out the graphic.

Pour some Mod Podge on the canvas and spread it around with the sponge paintbrush.

Careful, Emma! You might get your ponytail in the Mod Podge!

Pour Mod Podge on your canvas.
Spread out the Mod Podge.

Place your graphic on the canvas and carefully press it down all over so it will stick to the canvas. Make sure there aren’t any air bubbles under the graphic.

Cover the graphic with a light coat of Mod Podge. (Can you tell by the picture below what color of t-shirts we like to wear? BTW, we did NOT coordinate them at all.)

And you are finished! Let it dry and display on a small easel.

Holy moly, isn’t that one of the easiest and quickest crafts that you have ever done?

Now let me tell you a couple of things that I learned. First, I had a hard time finding a vintage Valentine that would fit the 5″ x 7″ canvas. You’ll notice some of the white canvas is showing on the sides because the graphic doesn’t go all the way to the side.

If this bugs you, you could paint the canvas with acrylic paint a color that fits with the color scheme of the Valentine. Or pink. Or red. Or your favorite color if you want. Whatever.

And here’s the second thing. Look really close at the finished Valentine done by my granddaughter in the dark pink t-shirt.

Some of the words beneath the girl on the Valentine are rubbed off.

Is that because we poured the Mod Podge on that spot of the picture when adding the top coat and the words got rubbed away as Emma spread the Mod Podge away from that spot? Did Emma press too hard as she brushed? Did she brush too much?

Could be all of the above.

Maybe instead of pouring Mod Podge on the picture for the top coat, pour some on wax paper. Then your grandchild can dip the sponge brush in the Mod Podge on the wax paper and spread it gently over the craft.

And maybe you could supervise this step with young grandkids.

Have a wonderful time making this 10 minute Vintage Valentine craft with your grandkids!
