Back in October, I did a Halloween craft with my grandkids where they painted wooden blocks and Mod Podged Halloween pictures on them. They turned out so cute and the grandkids loved making them. (If you missed it, you can see them here.)
So I said to myself, “Self, if the kiddos enjoyed that so much, they’d probably like doing a similar craft for Valentine’s Day.”
And I was right.
These Valentine blocks are super easy to make — especially with the free graphics that I provide for you.
Here is the list of things that you’ll need:
- a 2 inch wooden block for each child
- Valentine colored acrylic paint
- sponge paint brush
- Mod Podge
- scissors
- my free Valentine printables
Before I get into telling you how to make these little sweeties, I want to talk about the graphics. I have 3 sheets of them. Printable PDF files. They are at a 300 DPI so they will print up nicely. Make sure that you print them on a laser printer — unless you like the look of smeared ink from an ink jet printer. Just sayin’ . . .
Below are pictures of what is included in the pages. Click on the name above the picture to access the file. (Don’t click on the pictures.)
Make sure you cover your working surface so you won’t get paint on it.
Now. On to making the craft!
Have your grandkids cut out the pictures they want to use.
Next, paint the wooden blocks. Paint them all white. Or all pink. Or all red. Or different colors on different sides.
You can paint a side one color and then use an old toothbrush to flick specks of a different color on top.
Let your grandkids be creative!
(Make sure your grandkids wear something — like an apron — to protect their clothing.)
Isaac is so proud of his painting abilities!
Smile for the camera!
Now, comes the Mod Podge.
Spread it on the block and press your graphics onto it. Let dry. Spread a top coat of Mod Podge over the cube. Let it dry and voilà! You are done!
My grandkids show off one side of their Valentine blocks . . .
. . . and another side.
What a fun Valentine craft for the kiddos to do!
