Ah. Halloween.
It’s a time for orange and yellow crafts. Crafts with spiders, haunted houses, ghosts. And, of course, with ribbons. (All self-respecting Halloween crafts are decked out with ribbons, aren’t they?)
But those crafts need to adhere to my mantra: easy, inexpensive, minimal mess, minimal clean-up.
So a Halloween jar fits those requirements. Perfectly!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- glass jars
- Mod Podge
- Halloween napkins
- ribbon
- sponge brush
- scissors
- battery operated candle
Before we begin, let’s talk a wee bit about supplies. I didn’t have empty glass jam jars, or pickle jars, or any other type of glass jar. Rats.
But I did have Mason jars. So that’s what I used.
Instead of using the small battery-operated tea lights, I used a taller candle-like one from my local dollar store. Bigger jars beg for bigger candles. (At least to my way of thinking . . . )
Okay, let’s get crafting.
If your napkins are two-ply, carefully pull the 2 layers apart. You only want the one layer with the design. That way the candle light can easily shine through.
Cut out the part of the napkin’s design that you want to use.
Smear Mod Podge on your jar using a sponge craft brush.
Place your napkin over the Mod Podge. Carefully press it down making sure there aren’t any wrinkles.
Now, cover the napkin with a layer of Mod Podge.
Isaac isn’t quite three-years-old but he still did a great job on his jar!
Let the Mod Podge dry.
Tie a bow around the top of the jar to cover up where the lid screws on. (If you don’t want a bow, Mod Podge a piece of ribbon around the top of the bottle or cover that area with the napkin. Your choice.)
(My son-in-law thought this craft was cute. Imagine that! A guy thinking a craft is cute . . . )
When it gets dark, turn on the candle and put it inside your Halloween jar and enjoy.
