Unmute and Play Arts & Crafts Boxes

An arts and craft box from Unmute and Play is an excellent way for grandparents and grandchildren to connect through an online experience.

NOTE: Unmute and Play gave both my grandchildren and I a free craft box to review. However, all opinions are my own.

Grandparents don’t like it when their grandkids live far away. If they live more than a day’s drive away, grandparents don’t see their grandkids very often. Now with COVID, it’s even worse!

We are certainly glad for Zoom and FaceTime where we can connect in real time with grandkids and other loved ones. Three cheers for Zoom and FaceTime!

Even with that wonderful technology, sometimes grandparents wonder what to talk about with their grandkids. After a few minutes, everyone seems to run out of things to say.

However! There’s a wonderful solution to that dilemma.

Unmute and Play!

Unmute and Play has a delightful arts and craft box that can be sent to grandparents and to grandchildren. Grandparents and grandkids connect through Zoom and then have a parallel on-line crafting experience.

They both have the same supplies in their own box. They have a creative experience making a fun craft. Grandma can see what the grandkids make. Grandkids can see what grandma makes. Yet, the grandkids are in their own home. Grandparents are in theirs.

This is what the box looked like. I liked that it was green. The color made it stand out from boring brown boxes. Color is good!

Everything was wrapped in red tissue paper — red for Valentine’s Day. Yay!

This is what was in the box.

The ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ envelope contained 3 index cards — Discover, Create, and Connect. They contained fun Valentine’s Day facts, tips for making the Valentine’s cards, and conversation topics to discuss with your grandkids/grandparents.

Three index cards come with it.

And look at all of the crafting supplies. Boy oh boy!

There is a wide variety of craft supplies in the box.

Colored pencils, crayons, different colored foam hearts, red-sparkly foam hears, heart-shaped paper clips, ribbons, doilies, pop poms, stickers, glue stick, and more! Wow!

I chatted for a few minutes with my grandkids before we started. Of course!

And we’re off and crafting!

I had great fun chatting with the grandkids as they made their cards. It was just like there were sitting in my kitchen making them.

My grandson was enthralled with the pom poms. Every few minutes he held one up to show me. And then he was so proud when he glued them to his card.

We laughed. We talk. We crafted. And on and on.

They were so pleased with their finished cards! Those smiles melted my heart!

I liked the wide variety of materials in the craft box. My grandkids could really express their creativity and were able to make unique cards. No look-alike, cookie cutter craft here!

I loved that this was a seasonal craft. I’m assuming that future boxes sent around a holiday would contain materials to make a holiday-themed craft.

But here’s what I liked best.

We have Zoomed with all of our grandkids at various times. After a few minutes, they seem to loose interest. I know that little children do not have a very long attention span — about one minute for every year that they are old.

This time, my grandkids didn’t lose interest in talking to me over Zoom. They didn’t wander away. They didn’t get distracted by toys or anything else. Three-year-old Isaac stayed and crafted and talked with me the whole whole hour! And that really says something about the craft.

They loved explaining what they were doing. They loved showing me their work in progress. They told me who they were going to give their card to. The talked and talked and talked with me.

And that made my grandma’s heart happy. Very happy.

I give the Unmute and Play boxes 2 thumbs up, a 5-star rating, and my personal excellent-in-connecting-with-grandkids award!
