Now that it’s almost summer, it’s time to think about ‘outdoor’ crafts that you can do with your grandkids. Crafts that you can do outdoors. Crafts that you can ‘display’ outdoors.
I have four craft ideas for you. They are easy. They are fun. They are grandkid approved! (Can’t get any better than that if you ask me.)
The first is pour painting. It’s simply turning a terra cotta pot upside down and pouring paint over it. When the paint dries, you can plant colorful flowers in it. My grandkids had a blast making these pots. (Even though my grandson isn’t smiling too much in the picture below, he really did like this craft, He especially liked using gold paint with the black.) Check it out!
The next craft is a tea cup bird feeder. Get a tea cup and saucer from a thrift store, some E6000 glue, and a copper pipe and you’re good to go. This bird feeder is gorgeous — much prettier than many wooden bird feeders that you can find in the big box stores. (I’m looking at you Wal-Mart . . . )
Recycling things into a craft project is awesome. It’s even more awesome when the craft is not a typical one — like making a wind spinner from an empty water bottle. (Look really close at the picture below. Can you see the spinner? It almost blends in with the tree — well, that is if your tree has colorful stripes on it . . . )
You can make this last craft — a handprint fish – with things that you probably already have around your house — scrapbook paper, googly eyes, and craft sticks. It’s a great craft for the grandkids to do — especially at a family reunion.
School will soon be out. Grandkids will be more available to do crafts with you. And COVID restrictions are letting up. Yippee! Why not try doing one or two — or all — of these crafts together? In addition to having fun, you’ll strengthen your relationship with your grandkids. And that is what my purpose here is all about!
